Shannon Atherton, MS, PLPC
Shannon Atherton earned her BS in Psychology from Missouri State University in Springfield, Missouri. She then went on to receive her MS in Mental Health Counseling at Missouri State University. In addition to this, she has received certification and training in substance abuse counseling, as well as training in co-occurring disorders. She is currently a member of the Christian County Drug Court and DWI Court Treatment Team. She also has experience in anger management, parenting skills, and career counseling.
Shannon has been working in the mental health field since 2004, and has gained experience in working with a variety of different clients with different needs. She has had training in PTSD, and complex PTSD. She has experience in managing anxiety, panic attacks, and depression. Additionally, she has experience in working with men who are unsatisfied with life or want to improve in their current relationships.
Shannon also offers family and couples counseling. She has a background in foster care and has worked with many children and families in this population. Shannon is currently offering Life Coaching for pre-teens, teens, and young adults who are looking to improve in areas that impact their success and quality of life. Some of the areas addressed in these sessions include self-esteem, confidence building, social anxiety, performance anxiety, coping skills, developing healthy relationships, and emotional intelligence. Shannon has had success working with athletes on increasing confidence and managing performance anxiety.
Shannon also offers a weekly support group for survivors of toxic relationships, such as relationships with individuals with narcissism. Individual sessions are also available for clients who are dealing with these types of relationships.
