Shannon Atherton, PLPC
A discreet healing environment
I treat each client as a unique individual with unique needs. How I work with each individual varies according to the needs of the individual. I try to be flexible and completely open to the clients worldview and what they are wanting to get out of counseling. I view the therapeutic relationship as a partnership in which we work together to reach goals that have been chosen by the client. I work well with all genders and age groups. I work best with clients who are fully committed to feeling better. I have had success with men who are dealing with depression and a lack of satisfaction with life.
I offer life coaching for ages 12 and up (social anxiety, self-esteem, coping skills). I have had success working with athletes on building confidence and coping with performance anxiety. I have experience with trauma work and healing from toxic relationships.
I find that authenticity and empathy are the two most important things for a counselor to possess. My goal is to provide a safe place for clients to grow and heal, and am always looking for ways to improve my ability to provide that. I have had my own personal struggles that I have overcame, and this is a factor that helps me truly understand the client.
